The Bountiful Backpack Program is designed to meet the needs of hungry

children at times when other resources are not available, especially on weekends.

Here are four easy ways to support this amazing program:

1. Food Donations: Individual food donations are accepted year-round to supplement the backpacks and go directly to Arongen families.  Items may be left in the designated bin at Arongen’s main office.

We are specifically looking for easy items elementary children could grab and open on their own as a well as easy meals like soup and pasta.

Desired Items:

  • Granola bars
  •  Fruit cups
  • Applesauce cups
  • Oatmeal packets
  • Canned vegetables or fruit
  • Canned tuna or chicken
  • Peanut Butter & Jelly (no glass jars)
  • Individually wrapped snacks (goldfish, pretzels, crackers, etc.)

2. Volunteer: Food for Arongen families is picked up every Thursday between 10 and 10:20 am from Shen High School and divided into backpacks at Arongen by parent volunteers.  Volunteers make an immediate positive impact on the lives of Arongen families each week.  Just an hour of your time once a month makes a world of difference!

3. Sponsor the Backpack Program: Is your organization (Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Church, youth sports program, office, etc.) looking for a fantastic community service project?  Consider sponsoring a food drive or monetary campaign for the Backpack Program.  Email Arongen PTA Backpack Program Chairperson Laura Steele at
laura.j.steele@gmail.com
 for more information.

4. Monetary Donations: Each building has a clear backpack that is kept at the main office for anyone to make a monetary donation at any time. Please consider donating your spare change the next time you see one of these backpacks. Every penny helps!
